Multiple cooling centers around Columbia to help residents to cool off
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) is reminding residents that there are locations for residents that need to seek relief from the weather and the health risks involved with extreme heat.
Exposure to extreme heat can cause a variety of health problems, including heat stroke and even death. Those at greatest risk for heat-related illness include infants and children up to 4 years old, people 65 years old and older, and people who are ill or on certain medications.
Cooling centers are available to the general public during the building's normal business hours at:
- Activity & Recreation Center (ARC) at 1701 W. Ash St.
- City Hall at 701 E. Broadway
- Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services at 1005 W. Worley St.
- Columbia Public Library, 100 W. Broadway
- Salvation Army, 1108 W. Ash St.
- Salvation Army Harbor House at 602 N. Ann St.
- St. Francis House at 901 Range Line St.
