COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Lawyers for the wife of a Columbia man who was hit and killed by a car in May 2019 have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver.

Adrienne D. Siddens, of Columbia, accuses Regine McCracken, 25, of Columbia, of speeding more than 20 miles above the speed limit and using FaceTime video calling before the crash, according to court documents.

Randall Siddens was picking up cones from along Grindstone Parkway after a triathlon when he was hit by a car driven by McCracken. He died at a hospital more than six months later in November 2019 from his injuries.

Attorneys for Adrienne Siddens declined to comment about the lawsuit due to pending litigation. ABC 17 News spoke to her last week after she advocated for legislation designed to reduce distracted driving in Missouri.

A lawyer isn't listed for McCracken.

McCracken has 30 days to respond to the wrongful death lawsuit. A judge sentenced McCracken to 10 years in prison for first-degree involuntary manslaughter and other charges in May 2021.
