Woman who admitted to causing fatal crash gets 10-year prison sentence

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A woman who pleaded guilty to causing a crash last May that killed a Columbia man was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison.

Judge Jeff Harris sentenced Regine McCracken to 10 years in prison for manslaughter. McCracken pleaded guilty in March to manslaughter and three misdemeanors -- fourth-degree assault, careless driving and driving without a license. McCracken was given a one-year jail sentence on two of the misdemeanors and a $500 fine on the other, according to court records. The sentences will be served concurrently.

Prosecutors charged McCracken last July after her car slammed into other vehicles including a Columbia Police Department cruiser in May. McCracken also hit Randall Siddens, who died in November from his injuries. She was initially charged with assault but that was upgraded to manslaughter and DWI causing death after Siddens died.

Investigators said McCracken was using her cellphone for a video call at the time of the crash and was driving 68 mph in a 50 mph zone on Grindstone Avenue.
