Four hurt in Interstate 70 outer road crash

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Four people were hurt in a crash between a dump truck and minivan shut down an Interstate 70 outer road in Columbia and affected I-70 traffic Wednesday morning.

Authorities warned drivers at about 8:30 a.m. of a crash on I-70 N.W. in Columbia that was affecting traffic on westbound Interstate 70 near the Sorrels overpass. Missouri Department of Transportation live video appeared to show smoke coming from multiple vehicles.

Smoke or steam could be seen coming from a vehicle that was off in a ditch between I-70 Drive and I-70. The dispatching call said fire might be involved, Assistant Chief Clayton Farr Jr. said. However, the Columbia Fire Department said firefighters found no fire at the scene.

Four people were taken to a hospital, firefighters said. Details about their injuries were not immediately available.

MoDOT said on its traveler information map that the two-vehicle crash could delay traffic for an hour.

Both lanes of I-70 westbound were open just before 9 a.m. but I-70 Drive NW was closed.
