COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A new Schnucks supermarket in northeast Columbia is now expected to open next year.

The store was originally set to open last spring after construction started in late 2020 on the new location at Clark Lane and St. Charles Road. Spokesman Paul Simon said more delays are possible given global supply chain issues but the company now expects to open the store -- its third in Columbia -- in the first quarter of 2022.

Construction nationwide has been slowed during the coronavirus pandemic by a sluggish supply chain and product shortages. The problem has also affected other sectors of the economy.

Schnucks already operates a store on Forum Boulevard in Columbia and another under its EatWell brand on Providence Road.

An exact opening date for the new store is not yet determined.
