Vibez in Downtown Columbia had previous citations
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The shooting that happened outside of Vibez is being called a mass casualty event by the Columbia Police Department.
IT happened just after 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Bars in Columbia have to be closed by 1:30 a.m.
According to the probable cause statement "T.W said she went to Vibez around 1:30 a.m. and left when it was closing. T.W said as she left Vibez she heard apparent gunshots."
According to the Missouri Department of Public Safety Alcohol and Tobacco Control back in November of 2018 Vibez was charged with not closing at the right time and the failure to cooperate.
Those charges resulted in a five-day suspension of the bar's license by the Alcohol and Tobacco Control.
In October of 2018 Vibez was also charged with unlawful purchase from other than license according to the Missouri Department of Public Safety and Tobacco Control.
"By statute, a retail licensee can only purchase alcohol from a distributor/wholesaler. A retail licensee cannot purchase alcohol for sale from another retail licensee." Mike O'Connell Communications Director of the Missouri Department of Public Safety said.
Vibez holds a retail by drink liquor license which allows bars to serve spirits, wine and beer and also requires an establishment to stop selling alcohol by 1:30 a.m and have all patrons out of the building at that time
Over the past two months there have been four shootings outside of Vibez after 1:30 a.m. Two of those shootings resulted in people being hit by gunfire.
