NAACP holds meeting to discuss State Rep. Bayse’s call for CPS superintendent’s resignation
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Some members of the Columbia community are voicing their frustration with State Representative Chuck Basye after he called for the resignation of CPS Superintendent Brian Yearwood.
During a local NAACP chapter meeting, multiple speakers, including city council member Karla Skala and State Representative Tyson Smith, voiced their support for Yearwood and Columbia Public Schools.
On Tuesday, Bayse criticized Yearwood after a parent complained an Advanced Placement class at Hickman High School had been shown Childish Gambino's "This is America" music video.
The video portrays gun violence and has strong language.
Many of the speakers at the meeting, including the NAACP Columbia branch president, said the superintendent just got the job and it's unfair for him to be attacked.
Both Rep. Bayse and Yearwood were not present for tonight's meeting.
