One dead in crash at Highway 63 and Vandiver Drive

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer in north Columbia on Monday, police say.

Shannon Marrero, 37, of Columbia died in the crash that happened at about 5 a.m. at Vandiver and Highway 63, the Columbia Police Department said.

Marrero was in a car heading north on Highway 63 and made a U-turn into the path of the tractor-trailer, driven by John Lammers, 35, of Jefferson City, police said. Lammers was not injured.

Police say the truck driver had seen Marrero's vehicle on the shoulder helping another vehicle and moved from the driving lane to the passing lane before the crash. The truck hit Marrero's Toyota Camry in its side, police say.

Marrero was pronounced dead at the scene.
