Columbia College and other organizations to form Nadria Leeann Wright Memorial Nursing Scholarship
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia College, along with other organizations will launch the Nadria Leeann Wright Memorial Nursing Scholarship.
The Battle High School alum was killed in in September 2019 shooting when she was a freshman nursing student at Columbia College.
“Nadria was a tenacious young woman full of hopes and dreams and she made an impact on everyone she met,” said Shaunda Hamilton, Nadria’s mother and founder of Boone County Community Against Violence. “This scholarship was created to keep Nadria’s legacy alive and to help other young promising Columbia College students to achieve their goals. We miss her deeply every day, but we are proud to launch this scholarship on what would have been her 20th birthday (July 6).”
The scholarship will be awarded for the first time in April 2022. The scholarship will assist students majoring in nursing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who may be facing financial hardships.
“The college is truly proud to celebrate Nadria’s memory through this new scholarship that will support nursing students for years to come,” said Rothwell. “This testament to the value of higher education by her family and members of our Columbia community is inspirational.”
A celebration of the launch of the new award will take place on July 14, at 1 p.m. in the New Hall Event Center on the Columbia College campus.
