Developer plans subdivision near new Columbia middle school
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Engineers have submitted a plan for a new subdivision on Sinclair Road, across the street from a new middle school.
The developers of Sinclair Farms want to build a subdivision with hundreds of new home lots, cottage-style houses, townhomes, an apartment complex and possibly a few lots for businesses, according to plans submitted to the city of Columbia.
Crockett Engineering, the engineering company working on the project, plans to meet with the city later this month to discuss the plans.
The development is located south of West Nifong Boulevard and Sinclair Road.
The University of Missouri owns the land and has sold five tracts out of nine. MU selling the rest of the land.
MU spokesman Christian Basi said the proceeds are going toward the Sinclair School of Nursing and will be split between scholarships for nursing students and facility needs.
"Putting the money back into nursing education will greatly benefit our nursing students. Our nursing school has an excellent reputation and the proceeds from this project will help to retain the quality of the program," Basi said.
The university sold approximately 400 acres of land to the developers for this project.
The land is near John Warner Middle School. MU sold the property where the school was built to Columbia Public Schools for about $2.9 million in 2017.
