City of Columbia announces new ‘instant payment’ option for utility customers at a participating Walmart

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The City of Columbia has rolled out a new "instant pay" option at participating Walmarts for utility customers.

Utility customers will be able to pay their City of Columbia bill at any participating Walmart in the country and it will reach the City’s utility billing system in 30 minutes or less for $2 or a next day payment of $1.50. The additional $2 and $1.50 are the fees Walmart charges and are in addition to the utility payment.

The City of Columbia also offers many no fee utility payment options. There are no fees to pay a bill online at MyUtilityBill.CoMo.gov, over the phone at 573.874.7694, by auto draft or mail.

"This is a huge step forward as we strive to provide additional payment options, enhance convenience and be more accessible to our residents," City of Columbia Treasurer Chelsea Miller said.

Utility customers will need to visit the Walmart customer service area and provide the customer service representative with their bill or full utility account number. Payments made at Walmart must be made in cash or debit card only.

If the customer is paying their bill at Walmart for the first time, they should inform the customer service representative they are paying for City of Columbia, Missouri Utilities.
