Police find human remains in central Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Police said Monday that human remains were found over the weekend in central Columbia.

The Columbia Police Department said in a news release that officers were called Saturday morning to the 100 block of Austin Avenue after someone found possible human remains. Police said the remains were heavily decomposed.

Police are working to identify the person and a cause of death has not been determined, according to the release. The remains were turned over to the Boone County Medical Examiner's Office.
