Two people safe after duplex fire in central Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE (7/30): According to a news release from the Columbia Fire Department, the fire in the 300 block of Clinkscales Road started in the front yard. The cause is still unclear.

Investigators estimated damage to total $23,000.

ORIGINAL: The Columbia Fire Department said a firefighter suffered minor injuries in a duplex fire on Clinkscales Road early Wednesday.

Fire crews responded to the 300 block of Clinkscales Road just after 4 a.m. Wednesday for reports of the blaze. Two people inside the side of the duplex impacted by the blaze were able to make it out safely.

CFD said nine units were on the scene and were able to put the fire out in about 10 minutes.

Lt. Michael Holz with CFD said a downed power line in front of the building made access to the fire more difficult. Columbia Water and Light crews repaired the downed line around 5:15 a.m.

Holz said the structure was extensively damaged.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
