Power outages take out Columbia traffic lights
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Power outages took out several traffic lights in the East Campus area of Columbia on Tuesday evening.
The outages hit during rush hour -- emergency dispatchers warned of the outages via social media and text alerts a little after 5 p.m. They followed storms with heavy downpours that moved through the area.
ABC 17 News observed University of Missouri police officers directing traffic along College Avenue because of traffic lights being dark.
An outage map maintained by Columbia Water and Light showed about 450 customers without power in several pockets of central Columbia, including along East Broadway.
Another outage in south Columbia cut power to more than 600 customers, according to the map.
