Columbia Public Schools prepares to start grab-and-go meals for students

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Public Schools is working to feed students while the district is closed during the COVID-19 outbreak.

In a letter to families, CPS said it will start a grab-and-go meal delivery for students in need starting March 30.

According to the letter, there will be 8 buses running several routes on weekdays. Officials said students can meet the bus at the designated stop and time to pick up their meal.

The letter also recognized local groups that are working to help feed children in the community. CPS shared information about the efforts from the Food Bank Central Pantry and United Way.

The letter went on to update families on technology while students are out of class. Officials said they are currently mailing WiFi hotspots to students after the first shipment arrived. Another shipment is expected next week. The hotspots are compatible with CPS laptops and iPads.

As of Friday night, the district is still planning to reopen April 13.
