COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 26-year-old Boonville man died Wednesday when his car slid into a tractor-trailer on Interstate 70 in Columbia.

The Columbia Police Department said Patrick Elsey was driving his 2006 Ford Focus on I-70 eastbound when it slid into a tractor-trailer that was stopped in traffic. Officers found the crash while heading to an earlier crash that was blocking I-70 near the Range Line Street exit, CPD said in a news release.

Elsey was taken to University Hospital and was later pronounced dead. The tractor-trailer driver, Nega Tadesse, 48, of Garland, Texas, was not injured, police said.

Police do not suspect alcohol or drugs played any role in the crash but the investigation is ongoing, according to the release.
