COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

An Arkansas fire chief will take over the top post at the Columbia Fire Department next month.

The city of Columbia said in a news release Friday that City Manager John Glascock has hired Andy Woody as the new chief. Woody is currently the fire chief in Searcy, Arkansas. He began his career in Springfield, Missouri.

Randy White, the previous chief, retired Oct. 4. Deputy Chief Kyle Fansler has been acting chief since then.

Woody will make $126,000 per year to start along with a benefits package. A public meet and greet will be scheduled later, the city says.
