Scammers trying to get residents to pay ‘tolls,’ Camden County Sheriff says

MGN

CAMDENTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Camden County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam claiming to be “collecting tolls” for the Lake of the Ozarks Community Bridge.

Previous reporting indicates that tolls for the Lake of the Ozarks Community Bridge were expected to stop by Tuesday. The sheriff’s office confirmed in a post that tolls are no longer being collected.

The sheriff’s office on Wednesday wrote on its Facebook page that scammers are sending text messages to residents, demanding to “collect an outstanding balance.

“The Community Bridge has ended its toll collection and scammers are doing what scammers do. If you receive a text message from someone claiming to be from ‘Missouri Toll’ wanting to collect an outstanding balance - it is a scam. Do not fall for these scams,” the post reads. “If someone from the Community Bridge needs to reach you they will do so by US Mail. Please share this information with your elderly friends and family members as scammers tend to go after the elderly first.”
