Camden County firefighters battle fire in Macks Creek
MACKS CREEK, Mo. (KMIZ)
Camden County firefighters battled a structure fire in Macks Creek Wednesday night.
A Facebook post from the Southwest Camden County Fire Protection District said crews were called to the 600 block of River Ridge Road around 7:36 p.m.
Firefighters said half of the mobile home was on fire when crews arrived. Division Chief Josh Kingston said it's believed that a construction-grade heater under residence may have caused the fire.
Kingston said there was one person inside the trailer when it caught fire and that the resident was not hurt.
Hours after the blaze was put out, Kingston said there's not much left of the mobile home. The American Red Cross was called in to assist the resident.
Kingston said the resident hesitated to call 911 because of a false understanding that he had to pay the fire department. The division chief added the fire protection district is run by local tax dollars.
Two tankers with Mid-County Fire Protection District and one other with Northwest Fire Protection District responded to the scene. A Camden County ambulance was also brought in.
