Auxvasse names new fire chief, personnel

AUXVASSE, Mo. (KMIZ)

The City of Auxvasse announced in a Friday social media post that it has named its new fire chief.

The city announced Fire Chief Scott Sullivan, Assistant Fire Chief Rusty Burch and Capt. Tim McAlpin as its personnel. The city also said it has another person on staff as firefighters, though they were not named in the post. The city also has two additional applicants it is reviewing.

“These individuals possess extensive experience and training in various firefighting and rescue specialties, with Scott having 20 years of experience, Rusty being an exceptional volunteer firefighter for four years (showing his dedication by being the first individual to offer his guidance in the fire department) and Tim holding certifications in fire and EMT,” the post reads.

The announcement comes after an unanimous decision by the City Council to terminate former Fire Chief Rebecca Stone on July 11. In a July press release, the city clarified that only Stone was let go, and no volunteers were dismissed. In the wake of her dismissal, all volunteers under her command resigned as well, leaving the fire department without personnel, previous reporting states.

A Facebook post attributed to Stone on the Fire Department’s Facebook page claimed that all fire department members were let go. The city’s press release at the time said the Fire Department’s page was “not an official channel.”

City officials previously said they hoped to find a new fire chief by Aug. 13.

Those interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter can fill out an application at city hall.
