Auxvasse replaces storm siren that was “beginning to fail”

AUXVASSE, Mo. (KMIZ)

With storms in the weekend forecast, the City of Auxvasse may get its first opportunity to use its new storm siren.

The new siren was installed on May 31st and has increased range and decibel levels. The city says that the old siren was becoming unreliable. The city clerk wrote in a statement to ABC 17 that the new siren replaced a pre-existing siren "that was beginning to fail."

The new siren overlooks Auxvasse from the Fire Protection District building across from City Hall. A map posted by the city shows the area the siren will cover.

For the people of Auxvasse, a new modern storm siren couldn’t have come at a better time. Severe weather has pounded Mid-Missouri this spring, with the Show Me State ranking third in the country for the most tornado warnings issued this year, according to data from the National Weather Service. The siren marks a $32.407.25 investment from Callaway County.

The city clerk tells ABC 17 News that Callaway County is also in the process of purchasing and installing another outdoor warning siren for Millersburg.  This siren will be placed at the Millersburg Fire Protection District.
