COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a Fulton man was killed when he was hit by a vehicle that drove away from the scene in Callaway County on Wednesday.

Clarence Guyton, 53, was killed in the crash, the patrol said on Twitter on Thursday. The crash led to significant traffic backups starting at about 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Troopers have said the driver left the scene of the crash at the 148.8-mile marker near Kingdom City but haven't provided other details about the crash. A crash report says Guyton was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to the Boone/Callaway County Medical Examiner's Office.

The patrol said on Twitter that the driver has not been identified and that the crash happened at about 4 or 4:30 a.m.
