Electrical malfunction causes Boone County house fire

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

An electrical malfunction caused a home northeast of Columbia to catch fire, according to the Boone County Fire Protection District.

In a social media post, the district said it responded to the fire in the 7800 block of N Hickory Drive just before noon on Saturday. Firefighters arrived to the scene and found smoke coming from a bedroom on the second floor.

Fire officials said everyone was able to get out of the home safely after a smoke detector alerted someone in the home.

The fire caused about $10,000 in damage. According to the social media post, the fire was contained to the one bedroom.
