Boone County Emergency Management tells domestic violence victims to turn off phones during nationwide EAS test

MGN

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Those in abusive relationships who have a “secret phone” should turn their phones off before a nationwide EAS test Wednesday, according to a Tuesday Facebook post from the Boone County Office of Emergency Management.

A national emergency alert test will be sent to cellphones around the country at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday. The Office of Emergency Management said people in abusive relationships should wait to turn their secret phone back after the test and once they are away from their abuser.

In the post, the office included contact information for True North of Columbia and the Stop Human Trafficking Coalition:

True North of Columbia: 573-875-1370 or 800-548-2480

Stop Human Trafficking Coalition of Central Missouri: 866-590-595
