Boone County to hold open house for new master plan Tuesday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County will hold an open house Tuesday night regarding a new master plan for the county.

The county's current master plan was adopted in 1996, so this will be the first time in nearly 30 years that the plan is updated. The plan is a way for the county to accommodate for future growth, as the 2020 census shows that Boone County is one of the fastest-growing counties in Missouri.

The plan will consider things such as:

  • Policies for land use
  • Transportation & infrastructure improvements
  • Municipal and county services
  • Preservation of natural resources

The planning team will also consider trends in the demographics of the county, mobility, housing, workforce, as well as economic development.

Before the final plan can officially go into effect, it will need to go through a process. This includes a period set aside for public review.

It will also ultimately need to be approved by the Planning and County Commissions.

The meeting will consist of an open-house format where residents can provide input, rather than a formal presentation.

The meeting will take place at the Boone Electric Headquarters in Columbia from 4:30- 7 p.m.
