Socket announces expansion into western Boone County after receiving ARPA grant

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Internet provider Socket announced in a Tuesday press release that it is expanding its internet service to residences in the western parts of Boone County.

Socket is going forward with the expansion after received an American Rescue Plan Act Broadband Infrastructure Grant, the release states.

It was revealed in January that Socket, LLC was one of 60 recipients in the state to receive grant money for broadband infrastructure.

Socket received $2,557,930, while $261 million was available for the rest of the recipients. It also received $1 million in ARPA funds from the county, according to a press release from the Boone County Commission.

The ARPA Broadband Infrastructure Grant Program was launched August 2022 to invest in broadband expansion. The program prioritized unserved and underserved areas.
