What you need to know before heading to the polls

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Tuesday is Election Day and polling locations will be open from 6:00 a.m to 7:00 p.m for people to cast their vote.

If you plan to stop by your polling location, there are some items you need to keep in mind to make sure your vote counts.
Proper forms of identification:

  • A non-expired Missouri driver or non-driver license.
  • A non-expired military ID, including a veteran’s ID card.
  • A non-expired United States passport.
  • A photo ID issued by the United States or the state of Missouri which is either not expired or expired after the date of the most recent general election.

Recently, changes were made after Gov. Mike Parson signed an omnibus election law in June that changed voter ID requirements and expanded absentee voting.

If you don't have the proper identification but are a registered voter, you can cast a provisional ballot according to the state.

To find your polling location you can use the Missouri Secretary of State's website or the Boone County Clerks' Website if you live in Boone County.

Major names to watch for on the ballot are Trudy Busch Valentine and Eric Schmitt.

Trudy Busch Valentine, a nurse, and heiress to the Busch beer fortune was one of 11 Democrats seeking her party's nomination in the primary for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Roy Blunt.

Eric Schmitt has gained attention for lawsuits that critics contend are politically motivated. He sued China over the coronavirus; school districts over mask mandates; and the city of St. Louis over its plan to provide $1 million for women to travel out of state for abortions.
