Governor appoints new Boone County treasurer
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Gov. Mike Parson has appointed a Republican to take over the county treasurer seat that had been held by a Democrat.
Former treasurer Tom Darrough resigned in January after more than six years on the job to direct a not-for-profit organization. The Boone County Commission appointed a member of his office, Christy Johnson, to be interim treasurer in late January.
The county commission said in a news release Tuesday that Parson had appointed fellow Republican Dustin Stanton, one of the owners of Stanton Brothers Eggs, to the post. Stanton was sworn in Tuesday.
Stanton has served in roles for the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, Boone County Farm Bureau, Columbia Farmers Market and the Boone County Extension Council.
Stanton's term runs through the end of the year. An election for the office will be held in November.
