Firefighters work at the scene of a tractor-trailer fire on Interstate 70 in Boone County on Thursday, June 4, 2020.

BOONE COUNTY, Mo.

UPDATE: The Missouri State Highway Patrol tweeted at about 1:40 p.m. that both lanes had reopened.

The truck was hauling 30,000 pounds of sugar, according to the patrol.

ORIGINAL: Part of Interstate 70 westbound was blocked Thursday afternoon after a tractor-trailer caught fire.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said on Twitter at about 1 p.m. that troopers were working to clear a lane for traffic. Another tweet a few minutes later said a lane had been opened.

The fire happened at the 118.6 mile marker west of Columbia.

The Missouri Department of Transportation's traveler information map said delays could last an hour.

It wasn't immediately clear what started the fire, which appears to have burned up the diesel truck but not the trailer.
