Callaway County man charged with seven felonies following multi-county chase

MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Kingdom City man faces several felony charges after allegedly being involved in a chase last week with the Montgomery County, Callaway County and Audrain County sheriff's departments.

Michael Brooks, 48, is charged with:

  • Two counts of first-degree assault.
  • Two counts of armed criminal action.
  • Resisting arrest.
  • First-degree property damage.
  • Possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid.

Brooks was also charged with failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, a misdemeanor.

He is being held without bond in the Audrain County Jail, according to a press release. A docket hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Audrain County Courthouse.

Brooks had allegedly hit a Callaway County deputy's patrol car, as well as an Audrain County deputy's vehicle while being chased by law enforcement at Highway 821 near Highway 823. The Audrain County deputy was diagnosed with a concussion at an area hospital, according to a probable cause statement.

A passenger allegedly identified Brooks as the driver involved in the chase. The passenger alerted Brooks he was being followed by law enforcement. Brooks allegedly told the passenger he was not going to stop, according to the probable cause statement.

Law enforcement also found marijuana and methamphetamine while searching Brooks' KIA.
