Leaderless Michigan GOP seeks new direction in chair race

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The Michigan Republican Party is set to elect its next chair at Saturday’s spring convention from a 10-candidate field after the party suffered sweeping losses in the state in the 2022 midterms. Two Republican candidates who lost their races for Michigan’s top three statewide offices after promoting falsehoods about the 2020 presidential election lead the field. Matthew DePerno, who lost his race for attorney general in 2022, has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump in the race. Longtime donors are wary the next leader will be able to fix a state party that was once one of the best-funded in the country.
