JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A campaign to legalize abortion in Missouri has raised close to $5 million. Missourians for Constitutional Freedom on Tuesday announced a $4.8 million haul from January through March. The money is needed to pay workers to gather the voter signatures necessary to put the measure on the ballot this year. The campaign needs to collect at least 172,000 voter signatures by May 5. If approved by voters, the measure would enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution. Lawmakers would still be able to regulate abortion after fetal viability. A rival anti-abortion campaign raised about $85,000 in the last three months.
