Missouri Republicans try to remove man with ties to KKK from party ballot

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Republicans are trying to remove a man associated with the Ku Klux Klan from their party’s ticket. Southwestern Missouri man Darrell Leon McClanahan is a longshot candidate in the GOP primary to replace Gov. Mike Parson. McClanahan has previously described himself as “pro-white.” He disputes being a member of the Ku Klux Klan, but he says he was given an honorary one-year membership. The GOP Party is refunding McClanahan’s candidate filing fee and asking him to voluntarily withdraw from the ballot. If McClanahan doesn’t withdraw, the Secretary of State’s Office says it will take a court order to keep him off the ballot.
