JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri’s senior homeowners would be spared from rate hikes on property taxes under a bill headed to Gov. Mike Parson’s desk. The GOP-led House on Monday voted 154-2 in favor of the bill. If signed by Parson, it would be up to counties to approve the property tax breaks for people age 65 and older. The measure also would end state taxes on Social Security benefits. Supporters say it will help seniors on fixed budgets, particularly amid rising costs. Some critics raised concerns about the bill’s estimated cost of at least $319 million a year.
