WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Capitals’ already faint playoff hopes took another hit with a 5-2 home loss to the St. Louis Blues. Darcy Kuemper allowed four goals on 21 shots, while trade deadline pickup Rasmus Sandin was on the ice for four goals by the Blues. Sammy Blais scored twice and Joel Hofer made 33 saves in his season debut for St. Louis. Kasperi Kapanen and Jordan Kyrou also had goals for the Blues, who have long been out of playoff contention. Martin Fehervary and Nicklas Backstrom scored third-period goals for Washington.
