Landlord charged in tenant’s death after argument over heat
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Clay County prosecutors say a 44-year-old Kansas City landlord is charged with second-degree murder after a tenant was stabbed to death, allegedly over an argument about heating at his residence. Gordon McBeth was charged Monday in the death of Darryl Gilland. Officers responding to a call Friday to a home in northern Kansas City found a bystander pointing a gun at McBeth. A probable cause statement says witnesses told officers McBeth stabbed Gilland. KSHB-TV reports Gilland had been stabbed more than 30 times. Gilland’s girlfriend told investigators the couple had been working with McBeth on a problem with their heating when he came to the home and attacked Gilland.
