Woman pleads guilty in 1 son’s death, injuring his brother
PLATTE CITY, Mo. (AP) — A 33-year-old Kansas City woman has admitted drowning her 8-year-old son and trying to smother her 6-year-old son. Platte County officials say Aushena Warren pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder and first-degree assault. She admitted that she tried to smother her younger son at their home on June 17, 2017, and drowned the 8-year-old in a bathtub. Warren then drove to the Kit Bond bridge in Kansas City and jumped off but rescue workers pulled her from the Missouri River. She left a suicide note blaming her actions on the family’s financial problems. Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd says he will seek a life sentence for Warren when she is sentenced Nov. 2.
