Kansas man convicted of murder after son drowns in pool
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A 46-year-old man has been convicted of murder after his 2-year-old son drowned in a pool in Wichita. William Kabutu was convicted Thursday in the July 2020 death of Omari Garcia. Prosecutors said Kabutu was drunk when he let Omari and his 4-year-old brother squeeze through the fence around the pool. Omari got into the pool and could not stay above water. Kabutu was convicted of first-degree murder, an alternative count of second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated child endangerment. He will be sentenced April 18.
