COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri Department of Transportation reopened Interstate 70 westbound in Columbia near the connector earlier than expected, according to a Facebook post. The lane was fully restored early Sunday morning, but MoDOT first thought it would be fully finished early Monday morning.

MoDOT closed one lane of I-70 west on Friday for the weekend while crews worked to put in girders for the flyover ramp that will connect northbound Highway 63 to westbound I-70. MoDOT said the work isn't over, but the remaining girder will be set on Monday and Wednesday.

Two girders were placed over the weekend, and one was left over that will not affect traffic during the week.

The next step in the project is to start forming the deck of the ramp, and that's not expected to be complete until the end of the year.
