COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The University of Missouri's women's basketball program brought in $745,00 for the university during its previous athletic season.

MU will now have to look for a new coach of its program, after head coach Robin Pingeton announced she's stepping down after 15 seasons on Wednesday. While Pingeton and the team failed to advance to the NCAA tournament last year after a first round loss to Florida in the SEC tournament, the team still had a financial impact on the university.

The program made $745,492 during the 2023-24 athletic season, which was the second most for women's sports at MU.

Head coach Larissa Anderson's softball team brought in the most money for women's sports with $752,718. While the softball team brought in more money overall, basketball had a larger share of ticket sales at $155,215 compared to softball's $139,390.

Women's basketball teams across the country could soon be making more money.

The NCAA announced in January that womens basketball teams that participate in and advance in the Women's Division 1 Championship will begin receiving funding, similar to the men's tournament. The funds will begin at a value of $15 million in the 2025-26 fiscal year, increase to $20 million for 2026-27 and reach $25 million starting with 2027-2028.

MU Athletics overall saw an 18% growth in revenue last school year, but ended the school year with a $15 million deficit.
