COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A former Hermann police officer who was shot while in the line of duty last year is beginning a new role in law enforcement.
The New Haven Police Department announced in a Tuesday social media post that Adam Sullentrup will work as a public relations specialist for the department.
“Although his law enforcement career may have seemed uncertain, I am honored and excited to announce that Adam Sullentrup will be joining the New Haven Police Department as a Public Relations specialist. He will be volunteering to assist in upcoming public relations events,” the post says. “Please join us in welcoming Adam Sullentrup back to the New Haven Police Department, where he previously served with honor, professionalism and integrity for 5 years. I am confident that he will make a profoundly positive impact on our community.”
Kenneth Simpson is accused of killing Sgt. Mason Griffith and injuring Sullentrup by shooting them on March 12, 2023, at a Casey’s in Hermann.
Simpson, 36, of Steelville, is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, two counts of illegal gun possession, one count of unlawful possession of an illegal weapon, drug possession and resisting arrest.
The case was moved from Gasconade County to Franklin County in February. A pretrial conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2025. A jury trial is set for Jan. 20, 2026.
Police caught Simpson following a more than 12-hour standoff.
The state of Missouri, on Sept. 14, 2023, filed a notice of intent to seek the death penalty against Simpson.
