JCFD: Vehicle starts fire at Jefferson City Duplex

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

No one was hurt after a fire broke out at a duplex in Jefferson City on Tuesday night.

According to the Jefferson City Fire Department, firefighters were called to the report of a duplex fire in the 1400 block of Bertha Drive at 8:39 p.m. on Tuesday.

JCFD said crews found "a significant amount of fire" coming from the garage at one of the apartments in a duplex.

According to a press release, crews knocked down the fire in the garage before extinguishing part of the fire that had spread to the home.

Fire officials said the fire was under control within 30 minutes and firefighters stayed on the scene for more than two hours to investigate.

Jefferson City Fire said working smoke detectors alerted the residents of the fire, allowing them to exit the building safely.

The fire department said in a press release that an investigation revealed the cause of the fire was a vehicle inside the garage that spread to the duplex.

The cause of the vehicle fire is undetermined.

Cole County EMS transported one person from the adjacent apartment for an unrelated reason. Cole County Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Occupants of the main apartment were displaced due to fire and smoke damage.
