One juvenile suspect in custody after northeast Columbia shooting, other suspects at large

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

One juvenile suspect is in custody and others still at large after a shooting in northeast Columbia on Thursday night.

According to a CPD press release, the juvenile was detained on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree assault, and leaving the scene of an accident. Police responded to reports of shoots fired on Godas Drive near Valley Creek Lane just before 8 p.m. Thursday night where they found two crashed vehicles and property damage from gunshots.

An ABC 17 News photojournalist saw two vehicles at the scene with damage to the driver side doors. Two tow trucks removed the cars from the area around 9:15 p.m. Police cleared the scene before 9:30 p.m.

A neighbor who said he witnessed the incident tells ABC 17 News two people got out a car and started shooting at a group of people walking in the area. The car reportedly tried to quickly make a turn, lost control and struck the other car, which was parked on the street.

Another neighbor said his family heard more than a dozen shots.

Columbia police did not immediately respond to a request for information about the scene

This is the second time this week police have responded to the Godas Drive and Valley Creek Lane intersection. Officers found evidence of gunfire on Tuesday night. ABC 17 News has asked the police department if the two investigations are related.

According to online dispatch records, Columbia police have been dispatched to Godas Drive 77 times in 2024. Of those calls, at least 11 have been to the Valley Creek Lane intersection.
