California police say suspect shot and killed 4, including wife, son and parents-in-law

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — California authorities say a man is in custody after fatally shooting his wife, their 6-year-old son and his wife’s parents Wednesday night. Alameda Police say a 1-year-old son also was shot and is in critical condition. Police said the mortally wounded father-in-law reached a neighbor who called 911. Officers recovered multiple firearms from the home. They have not provided a motive. This was at least the 21st mass killing in the U.S. this year, according to a database maintained by The Associated Press and USA Today in partnership with Northeastern University. Nearly half of all the perpetrators in the database have killed their own family members.
