PHHS announces 2024 lunch locations for students

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

School will soon be letting out for summer break, and the City of Columbia has announced the sites where youth 18 years old and younger in a Monday press release.

The Summer Lunch Program runs from June 3-Aug. 2 and will be open Monday through Friday. There will not be lunch provided on June 19 and July 4, the release states.

The Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) will be providing lunch at the Armory Sports and Recreation Center, 701 E. Ash Street from noon-1 p.m. those days.

According to the release, Powerhouse of Columbia will also be providing lunch at various locations. Some locations have slightly different times than the Armory. The locations and times are as follows:

  • Columbia Housing Authority (CHA) Stewart-Parker; Lunch from noon-12:30 p.m., with a snack period from 1:30-1:45 p.m.
  • CHA Bear Creek - 1109 Elleta Boulevard; Lunch from noon-12:30 p.m., with a snack period from 1:30-1:45 p.m.
  • Columbia Square Lunch - 1715 W. Worley St. from 11-11:30 a.m.  and a Snack from 12:30-12:45 p.m.
  • Progressive Missionary Baptist Church - 702 Banks Ave. will have lunch from 11-11:30 a.m.  and a snack period from 1:30-1:45 p.m.
  • 718 Demaret Drive will have lunch from noon-12:30 p.m. with a snack period from 1:30-1:45 p.m.
  • Indian Hills Park will have lunch from 11-11:30 a.m.  and a snack period from 1-1:15 p.m. 

The release states that anyone bringing a larger group for lunch at the Armory site, please call WIC at the PHHS from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. the day before arrival at the lunch site. Those looking to volunteer can sign up online.

The program collaborates with Columbia Public Schools, Columbia Parks and Recreation, and Powerhouse. Funded by the United States Department of Agriculture through an extension of the school free and reduced lunch program, it will provide wholesome meals to kids in Columbia.
