MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)

A woman has been charged after she was accused of stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of bank deposits from a vet clinic.

Terry Davenport, of Benton City, was charged with stealing more than $25,000. A warrant was issued on Wednesday and a $100,000 bond was set. A judge recused themselves on Thursday and another judge was assigned. A court date has not been scheduled.

According to the probable cause statement, owners of the institution– which was not mentioned in court documents --  told law enforcement that they received multiple calls from clients saying their checks were not being cashed. The owners told police that Davenport was in charge of completing the deposits, the statement says.

The owners allegedly told law enforcement that they confronted Davenport on Dec. 15. They allegedly told her that they knew she was in possession of several months’ worth of deposits, which she allegedly confessed to, stated “it was her fault” and wanted to pay the money back, according to court documents.

Law enforcement reviewed bank statements and income report from 2021-23 and allegedly saw:

  • In 2021, $35,367.63 in cash and $671.04 in checks was not deposited
  • In 2022, $34,457.10 in cash and $3,020.99 in checks was not deposited
  • In 2023, $20,218.64 in cash and $6,614.21 in checks was not deposited

The detective apparently told Davenport that “it was clear she was removing the cash from the deposits” and she allegedly replied, “right,” court documents say. Davenport then allegedly stated “it was her fault,” the statement says.
