Rolla man seriously injured in ATV crash

ROLLA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Rolla man suffered a serious injury in an ATV crash Tuesday in Phelps County on Highway 5480, about 10 miles east of Rolla, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

According to the report, the crash occurred as Gary Hewlett, 70, was heading northbound on a 2009 Yamaha Grizzly 550. The vehicle went off the left side of the road, hit a fence and overturned.

Hewlett was flown to University Hospital. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the report. The ATV had minor damage.
