Second person charged in relation to August Ballenger Lane shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A second person has been charged in relation to a shooting at a liquor store parking lot on Ballenger Lane in August.
Sierra Felice Smith, 35, of Columbia, was charged on Wednesday with third-degree assault and resisting arrest. She was not listed on the Boone County Jail roster on Wednesday. A warrant was ordered and no bond was set. A court date has not been scheduled.
According to the probable cause statement, surveillance video recorded nearby showed a white van parked in a parking lot and a gold Chevy Tahoe pulled behind the van. A white Dodge Charger parked in a driveway next to the parking lot. A woman was allegedly seen walking in front of the Dodge, into the parking lot and opens the door to the white van.
The passenger of the Chevy – described as Smith’s daughter later in the statement -- then allegedly got out and lunged at the woman standing near the van and hit her multiple times, according to the probable cause statement. Smith is then allegedly seen hitting the woman and several people were pulling Smith and her daughter away, the statement says.
Court documents says police spoke with Smith on Aug. 31 and she allegedly admitted that she and her daughter were involved. On Sept. 6, police spoke with the woman who was assaulted by the pair, the statement says. Police then spoke with Smith again that day to say they would like to arrest her and her daughter and Smith allegedly said she would bring her daughter.
A juvenile office director told police on Tuesday that she spoke with Smith on Sept. 6, as well, and during the call, Smith allegedly said she would not bring her daughter to get arrested.
Shyraah Brown, 35, was charged earlier this month with three counts of first-degree assault, first-degree assault of a special victim, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. She is accused of shooting a 17-year-old boy in the right ankle.
Brown is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5.
A probable cause statement previously described that several fights allegedly broke out within a span of four minutes before “the crowd” was seen running away. Brown was allegedly seen on video holding a gun and firing it at a vehicle.
