Man accused of killing pregnant woman in Randolph County crash pleads guilty

CARROLLTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Moberly man accused of killing a pregnant woman and her unborn child in an April 6 Randolph County crash pleaded guilty on Friday.

Steven Garrett, 47, was charged with driving while intoxicated – causing the death of two or more. He was initially charged with two counts of second-degree murder, armed-criminal action and four counts of driving while intoxicated (including death of two, causing serious physical injury, causing physical injury and aggravated DWI). 

Garrett is in the Randolph County Jail. He pleaded guilty on Friday and the hearing was continued to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14. The judge ordered a sentencing assessment report on Friday, which has yet to be completed, according to Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney Stephanie Luntsford.

Maya Stilwell, of Moberly, was killed in the head-on collision, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. She was 22. Stilwell was about six or seven months pregnant, according to the probable cause statement. Stilwell's fiancé Conar Maylee and 2-year-old daughter Delilah Stilwell-Maylee were injured in the crash.

Garrett’s case was moved to Carroll County in June.
