Updated drought report shows over 90% of state has abnormally dry conditions

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

An update on drought conditions across the state was released on Thursday morning. But, despite a few rain storms this month, Mid-Missouri is still seeing a large amount of drought.

According to the most recent drought report published, over 90% of the state has abnormally dry drought conditions.

That's up almost 5% when comparing data from last week.

This month, ABC 17 Stormtrack weather team reported mid- Missouri only saw 1.5 inches of rain.

Only a few areas in the state picked up more than an inch, but the recent rainfall doesn't seem to be enough as most of Mid-Missouri is still falling behind on seasonal rainfall according to last week's report.

  • Orange: Severe drought
  • Red: Extreme drought
  • Colorless: No drought

The recent severe drought across the state has caused Governor Mike Parson to issue a drought alert for 60 counties.

More than a dozen of them are located in Mid-Missouri.

Gov. Parson says he wants to help farmers impacted by the drought and announced a plan on Tuesday, to provide farmers with emergency hay and water.

The plan will allow farmers to collect water using boat ramps at 25 state parks.
